This event has been one that The TEA Proposal Team has been brainstorming, working on, and creating since the beginning of TEA! Here's our timeline:
1/15/21: The TEA Proposal brainstorms the idea for this event.
5/27/21: The TEA Proposal reached out to the William H. Rehnquist Center on the Constitutional Structures of Government.
5/31/21: The TEA Proposal sent out an interest form to high school students in the local Tucson area to determine if shadowing law students is something they would like to participate in.
8/21/21: The TEA Proposal followed up with a second interest form that asked the high school student for the specific fields of law that they are interested in (such as criminal, environmental, business, juvenile, immigration, and health law).
9/29/21: The TEA Proposal reached out to SBA.
10/11/21 - 12/30/21: Email communication between The TEA Proposal and Rachel R. to discuss the possibility of setting up a shadowing opportunity.
12/2/21: The TEA Proposal met with Rachel R. to establish our initial steps of creating the law student shadowing event and determine a tentative schedule for the event.
12/5/21 - 12/29/21: The TEA Proposal sent out the Law Student Shadowing March 2022 Interest Survey. The purpose of this survey was to inform high school students about our collaboration with the SBA, collect responses from students who would like to attend the event, and learn about the specific interests of the students to finalize our event activities (i.e., the law classes to sit in, the type of speaker presentation/seminar, etc.). Overall, we received responses from over 75 students who were interested in participating in this event!
1/11/21 - 2/23/22: The TEA Proposal and Rachel discussed survey responses and event logistics.
2/25/22: The TEA Proposal sent the Event RSVP form for high school students to sign up for the event. Our team and the SBA offered spots to 20 high school students–who were selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
2/26/22 - 3/14/22: The TEA Proposal and Rachel continued discussing event logistics and began volunteer recruitment.
3/14/22: The TEA Proposal and Rachel held an event-preparation Zoom meeting with the selected high school students. During this meeting, we talked about the event schedule, behavior expectations, signing and submitting permission forms, public transit and parking information, and the provided lunch on 3/16/22 (to ensure all students with dietary restrictions have their needs met).
